Heroes
What is a hero?
Are they the main characters in your favorite movie? i don’t think so.
To me, a hero is somebody who puts other people ahead of themselves. Someone who really wants to help you. If you want to be a hero, you don’t have to make up a cool nickname and run around in colored spandex. You just have to want to help people and be there for them. Here’s some ideas for being a hero:
1. Be nice
2. Give hugs
3.Smile
4. Just look for ways to make the world a better place
Spiderman, Superman, and Batman are pretty awesome though.
Shades of Green
I love just lying in the grass and watching the clouds. During the summer I go outside and lay in the sun for hours. It’s great.
Yes I am a duck fan. Even though they sucked horribly this year, they’re still my team. They’ll be back next year… hopefully.
These are amazing, I know. I would probably get a different color, but you really just can’t go wrong with sunglasses.
Earth Day
I’m not sure what I’m supposed to write about, so I’ll just ramble about saving the Earth. I don’t really think getting an eco-friendly car is going to do a whole lot of good because there are old clunker cars that get better gas mileage than the new cars with ” amazing gas mileage.” Here are some things that I think will help:
- Recycle (of course)
- Use the reusable shopping bags
- Energy efficient appliances
- Reuse things instead of throwing them away
- Turn lights off if you don’t need them at the moment
- Plant some trees!
These are just a few ideas. If you look into it I’m sure you can find so many more things you can do to help the Earth.
About Me
Well, my name’s Claire. I’m a christian. I’m in 10th grade this year and I’m loving it. My birthday is in the summer so I’m one of the the babies of the class. Soccer and Track are my sports. I’m a keeper in soccer and I do high jump, long jump, triple jump, and short sprints for Track. It’s so much fun! I have one brother named Ian. He’s twenty-one and we get along really well… most of the time. When I get out of high school I plan on being a physical therapist.
blog #6- Podcasting
Podcast about Holes, by Louis Sachar
I thought it did a good job mixing the storytelling with the passages together. In my podcast, I want to use music, have the voices fade in and out, and have different voices for different characters. Those three things are what stood out to me the most. The music sets the mood for that part of the podcast and meshes with the voices well. As the voices fade in or out you know when a different passage is going to come. The characters having their own voice makes it easier to tell them apart. It also makes it seem more realistic. I had already read this book, but the podcast made me want to read it all over again.
blog #5 texting lol
1. What are your general thoughts about text messaging?
I honestly don’t see anything wrong with texting. Sure I text in class, but that doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention. I am simply multitasking.
2. On average, how many text messages do you send a day? How many people do you regularly text message?
I probably send around two hundred texts a day. They are usually sent to about five or six people and the conversations can last practically all day.
3. Does text messaging make a difference in terms of your ability to write well? How does text messaging impact your own writing?
For me, text messaging hasn’t changed my writing at all. Well, it did teach me how to spell “actually” and “tomorrow.” When my phone is on T9, it only puts the word in if I spell it correctly, so I spent a few minutes testing the different ways to spell those words. Now, I am proud to say that I can spell the words.
4. What place, if any, does text messaging have in schools? In our language? In popular books, television advertisements, political campaigns, and movies?
At school we are told not to text, but we do anyway. My grades haven’t dropped since I got a phone, so I don’t think it matters whether or not we text in class. I definitely do not want the different political parties texting me to see if they “can count on my vote.” I also don’t want companies texting me to advertise their products.
5. How is text messaging changing face-to-face and spoken communication? What impact does text messaging have on communication?
Texting lets me talk to people enough so that if I haven’t seen them face-to-face for months I can talk to them about their life today rather than their life a week ago.
blog #3- Blogging about blogs
Okay, I’m going to blog about blogging, how ironic. I like how you can write about something on your blog and it will always be there. You could write your life story and anybody could read it. On Myspace there is a link to a blog site, but i wasn’t ever interested in it. I knew what it was, I just thought all people ever did was write about stuff that didn’t really matter on them. I wasn’t worried when I found out we were going to blog our writing because I’m confident with my computer skills. I know there are creepers on the internet, but i feel safe because if you don’t tell them your full name or where you live, you should be fine. You just have to be smart.

blog #1- Ukiah days
All day we had been painting walls, caulking cracks in the siding, and sawing boards for the awning. It was hard work, but it didn’t bother me. My youth group has been working on the church for about four years now. Our church and others offered to build it so Camas Creek Church wouldn’t have to worship in half a duplex.
Over spring break, I had come to Ukiah for the first time to help lay cement. It had been so cold and dreary we never got the famous ice cream. But today, I would get some. We all filed into the ice cream shop that also happened to be the liquor store. I chose Rocky Road. My favorite.
We walked across Main Street, which is probably used by quads and tractors more than anything else. It also holds the only lodge, bar, and two stores in the whole town. On the other side, there is a small park with swings, monkey bars, and the worst play ground toy ever invented, a teeter-totter. Every time I get on one of those I get hurt.
We sat on the swings enjoying our treats and listening to two boys trying to sing “American Idiot” on a karaoke machine. After a few more songs someone suggested that, since he was always singing anyway, Nick should sing a song. He was reluctant, but we encouraged him.
“Come on, Nick!”
“You can do it.”
“Show ‘em how it’s done!”
His brother, Brandon wanted to sing with him, so they finished their ice cream and we all headed over to the rickety old picnic tables and the karaoke machine. The other group was happy to let us join them. One guy even tried to get Anna or me to sing something. Brandon and Nick decided to do “Don’t Take the Girl.” Even though I had never heard the song before I thought they did a really good job. When they were done Nick sang “Our Song” by himself. That was awesome.
I have only been to Ukiah twice, but I love it so much. This is just one of many great Ukiah stories. When I’m there I feel so peaceful and happy. I can’t wait to go back.
